How project funding works
Where the money from Pro and Supporter subscriptions actually goes, in plain terms.
Where it comes from
The only revenue that funds community projects is Pro and Supporter subscriptions, purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play. There's no advertising and no outside investment behind ClimberPyramid.
What comes off the top
Before anything reaches the project fund, three things get paid first:
- The app store's cut. Apple and Google both take a commission on every subscription before we ever see it.
- Taxes. The tax owed on that revenue in the country ClimberPyramid operates from.
- Server and maintenance costs. Hosting, storage, and the infrastructure that keeps logs, betas, and the app itself running day to day — pretty small.
What's left goes to projects
Whatever remains after the store cut, taxes, and running costs becomes the project fund, and it goes into improving climbing spots. Nothing is held back beyond those three costs.
Supporters pitch project ideas, and Pro and Supporter members vote on them. The projects with the most votes are the ones the money goes to.
How you can check
Approved and funded proposals are public on the Projects page, and every completed round gets a published spending report there too.
